Your character for instance are one of but many catalysts for a battle of good versus evil as the world tries to find a way to find a new Divine and stop the chaos from consuming all. Prior to the start of the game the mightiest of all Sourcerers, chosen by the gods, named the Divine has died and has plunged the world into a state of chaos as creatures start emerging into the world drawn to an influx of source energy. In this world sourcerers are beings that are capable of manipulating the fuel for all magical abilities know as Source energy. You wake up on a ship chained and collared for being a Sourcerer in the series’ world of Rivellon. The one choice you don’t have a hand in is your current fate at the beginning of Original Sin II. You never know who is aligned with who so every choice again should be a careful one. You should also be aware that messing with or threating NPCs can have a whole slew of people ready to destroy you for something as little as giving someone a dirty look. Once at Fort Joy though, you really start to see the complexity and massive scale of option on how to plan your escape from the island. Don’t let the name fool you, there isn’t much to be excited about in that place. You have the option to break off from the party while still in it to talk to people or do certain things if you so choose like I did a few times in the prison island of Fort Joy. Larian gives players the complete freedom to totally submarine pretty much every quest but there are features that can help prevent that to a point. For example, if you need to talk to a certain NPC there is a chance that another character’s questline in your party may interfere or railroad that conversation for you due to unforeseen um… complications. Having party members is great for much of the game due to their wide variety of abilities though even then there are times were that comes with some drawbacks. Each one can be recruited into your party if you so choose though no more than 4 characters including yours can be in a party at one time. The beauty of creating your own adventurer is that you can’t really miss out on these characters stories unless *cough* unfortunate things happen to them. Each of these character’s backstories and problems are more than words on paper as they are integrated into the gameplay itself so things are never dull. Or even more interesting for me is Lohse, the longtime performer of the arts who plays hosts to various spirits, entities and one very terrifying voice that seems to want to take over her body and soul permanently. I was rather intrigued by Fane, the last of his kind undead, who while hiding his true self is searching out what really happened to his people. While I chose to create my own outlaw rogue elf character, the main characters are just as equally fascinating. Much like the first Original Sin you can also recruit a friend locally or online to join in the fun. For those that want to walk a different path you can create your own character from the races and classes found at the start. If you want to jump right into the story there are 6 predefined characters complete with their own backstory, told in a little skit, that you can choose from that are Larian’s misfit band of potential heroes. Divinity: Original Sin II – Definitive Edition for the PlayStation 4 returns to both its roots and to those of the isometric RPG to deliver an experience that is just as thought-provoking in its design as it is in your choices.īefore you even start playing you have to create or choose your character. It’s this complex freedom of choice that really drew me into this adventure of good and evil. Divinity: Original Sin II – Definitive Edition is a game that is all about choices and every one of them could be your last given the conditions. Sometimes the hardest choices start from the moment you press the Start button.
